Apartment Searching 9/27 - 10/1

On Wed, September 27th Mandy and I had our hopes turned around! Together we had our hearts set on the apartment we were currently staying. It pretty much was a perfect fit for us. It has three bedrooms (for all three girls), lots of natural light, clean, laundry room service, furnished with the necessities, and very near our teammates (15 min walking distance). Unfortunately, we found out from Ale that this owner was one we did not want to mess with. Long story short, she is one to work with. Since Ale already had a year experience with this owner with her current apartment situation, she knew what she was talking about. That afternoon was a tough one for it was the day we were going to give our decision to the owner and the day we found out the details with the owner! When the owner arrived that early evening we shared our gratitude for her trust in having us there for the last month while she was on vacation. We also expressed our concern with the details of the apartment and when we will need to move out if we chose not to take it. Her answer: Sept 25th (two days ago). So we asked if we could pay for extra days. “Yes, but I need the apartment on Sept 30th.”

This began our apartment search! We looked and visited MANY apartments nearby! I believe we called about 100 apartment ads (using internet, newspaper, or walking by posted signs), visited about 15, and walked 20+ miles during the following 3 days! By the end of it all we were tired, weak, without much luck.
We found three possibilities and on Sept 30th, we spoke and shared our concerns and desires for our apartment. After calculating all the little details we found one apartment that seemed sufficient for our needs, but yet wasn’t one we liked. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to look anymore for we had to clean up the apartment and get out by 8pm that evening!
Where would we leave our things? Hmmm God worked here! Tim and Joram, fellow teammates were also in the process of moving out. They had JUST found a small apartment that will suit their needs and were waiting for the signing of the paperwork. Fortunately, they had until Oct. 9th with their current apartment. We chose to use their space for our stuff while they move out so that we could have a couple more days to search. The 30th was a crazy day!! Deciding on an apartment, cleaning, and moving out caused a LOT of pressure and tension as we faced with several obstacles!! At around 4pm, Ale and I were calling our guy friends practically begging for some help carrying our boxes from one apt to the next. It was at around 6:30pm that we were finally connected with one of my guy friends and his best friend. We were also connected with one of her guy friends. Both had vehicles! (Let me stress, this was NOT easy because most of our close friends had work or school and couldn’t! Leaving us with those we really didn’t know much.) In the moving process, it began to rain, I fell, and time was NOT on our side! However, it worked out well!!
Funny thing happened that night, as we packed our things in this nearly empty apartment, the question came up, why not this apartment? Why can’t we stay here? The question came up again the following morning!
October 1st! We came together (Ale, Mandy and I) prayed, cried, and hugged one another for the lessons God has been teaching us with humility and faith! That morning, we also decided that we better hurry to check if the ‘guys’ apartment was still available for us. Praise God, It was!! We set an appointment for the following day and agreed to give this apartment our all!
Magdelena 21: 2 bedrooms, an office (that can convert to a bedroom), 2 ½ bathrooms, decent kitchen, balcony, plenty of space and lights, and very near the other teammates.
We visited this owner Oct. 2nd, Rosendo. Through this interview, I can in confidence say that we now have an apartment!!!

What is so amazing about this apartment? It is an answer from God.
• We prayed for an apartment within the three days, we found one!
• We prayed for an easy transaction, so far very good!
• We prayed that all of us will agree, all other apartments we did not, it was ONLY this one that we did!
• We prayed to have an apartment for each of our desires: clean kitchen, more than one bathroom, space, near location, balcony, clean, in a safe neighborhood; this apartment is a perfect fit!
• We prayed for it to fit our price range, it is actually LESS than we hoped for by about $50!

Well, our only concern (which can be both good and bad) is the fact that this apartment isn’t furnished. We will need to find either cheap furniture to fill our home OR to borrow from the friends and supporters of those we know. Please pray for this. I do NOT want to spend much time or money in furnishing our home, for I do wish to focus on the ministry before me and the work that I came here to do, but I do understand my responsibilities for living in Mexico City.
